(This is Doug, sorry for the delayed posts! Had technical difficulties…)
Hello from recently rainy California!
This week has been filled with many new experiences!!
Each day of the week it has rained here in Westlake Village! Well…. its rain relative to the drought that this part of the state has been in. It’s really fun to be able to walk around in the rain and just reminded of home! Oklahoma has way more rain than the fine mist of California but I will take what I can.
Last Monday we were able to go over to a members room for district activity. Below is a picture on their cliffs by their pool. the subject of the email is a little bit misleading…. We weren’t able to jump into the pool but hey its the closest thing I can get for the next 21 months! Their pool set up is amazing and the picture only gets like 20% of everything they have/
I have a new companion, Elder Allen. He is fresh from the MTC and from Riverton, Utah. That makes 4 of 4 for companions from Utah as a missionary. His family has NINE children in it and he is the second oldest but the first to be serving a mission! Elder Allen loves to read non-fiction books and to sing. As we are walking around Westlake Village, he is always singing a little song! He graduated high school in June and is 18!
With the transfer we also got some new missionaries in our district. We have 2 sister missionaries and we like to put them in between the 2 tallest elders to make them look extra short. Luckily, I am considered one of those 2 elders so thank you mom and dad for the good genes.
I can already tell how rewarding it is to be a trainer for a new Elder! I can see his growth in the Holy Spirit, being accepted and loved by the ward members, and adjusting to missionary life as a whole. We have had a chance to teach 2 new investigators together already and he has a powerful testimony of the gospel. There is a large trust from God and from the mission president when it comes to training. In Doctrine and Covenants 42 verse 6, it states…
“And ye shall go forth in the power of my Spirit, preaching the gospel, two by two, in my name, lifting up your voices as with the sound of a trump, declaring my word like unto angels of God.”
I am so honored to be able to be a full time missionary and being apart of this great work! Working beside other missionaries that have the same dedication and goal is a really unique experience that I will always cherish. The gospel of Jesus Christ helps us in a way that no other think on Earth can! It is only through the Atonement of Jesus Christ can we have a truly unconditional peace and joy despite all the hardships we will go through in a lifetime. I invite everyone to help at least one person this week so you can feel the joy of being a representative of Christ like love!
Till next week!
The pictures below are the cliff jumping, me enjoying the rain, Elder Allen and I at the Trunk or Treat event (I was a Cereal Killer, haha get it), I put on a BYU helmet that someone had to represent my pride from afar and our new district!
